Johnson Controls Inc.

Johnson Controls Inc. hired me to work in their Humboldt and Downtown manufacturing facilities. I worked as a machine operator, light electronics assembler and also in their plating department and stockroom, filling orders and packaging electronic and computer parts.

The work was brutal, physically demanding and monotonous. The pay was very good and the benefits were better.

On the bad side JCI refused to modernize their equipment to reduce on the job injuries to prevent repetitive motion injuries. The pension of the workers under 25 years of age was taken from us, but we were not allowed to collect the money.

In the mid 1980's our plant was shut down so that Johnson Controls could fulfill their obligations to the share holders and replace the union employees with Mexican workers working for 1/10 of our wages with no benefits. Michael Moore confronted Johnson Controls in his movie "The Big One."
